England, 1318. Joan of Leeds makes the daring decision to escape from the Benedictine Abbey of St. Clement, where she has been confined since the age of ten. To achieve this, she will have to outwit the abbess, an implacable guardian of the strictest traditions. By candlelight, Joan unveils her plan: since only death can release a nun from her vows, she will devise a bold stratagem to leave the convent by deceiving her superiors, with the complicity of some of the sisters. Thus begins Joan's incredible adventure in search of freedom, a turbulent journey that will take her across the region and, later, to London, where she will come close to the highest echelons of power.
