El americano tranquilo

Alden Pyle is a young, idealistic American who has just arrived in Saigon during the Indochina War to work for the American Economic Aid Mission. There he befriends Thomas Fowler, a cynical and hardened British war correspondent who is in a relationship with a young Vietnamese woman, Phuong, whose presence soon piques the American's interest. Months later, when Fowler learns that Pyle has been murdered, he remembers him with these words: "I never knew a man who had better reasons for the trouble he caused."
