Beyond telling the story of the pioneers, it documents the underground scenes and movements that forged the exciting and eclectic culture of electronic music in its formative decades, a breeding ground for experimentation and new ideas about sexuality and gender roles, among many other aspects. Through interviews with key figures and extensive research, Dream Machines explores genres as diverse as space rock, synth-pop, ambient, dub, industrial, progressive rock, electro, hip hop, Hi-NRG, and house, highlighting how societal changes and technological advancements shaped British electronic music.
