Francisco de Quevedo (1580-1645) was a complete writer who cultivated virtually every literary genre. Poetry, in particular, always occupied a fundamental place in his life and literary career: in his verses, he poured out emotions and jests, ambitions and his dazzling creativity. Complex and controversial, both his extensive output and his ideology resist categorization. Rodrigo Cacho Casal offers a selection of poems organized thematically according to Parnaso español (1648) and Las tres Musas (1670): the posthumous books that compiled his verse. Each section includes an introduction that contextualizes the corresponding genre, facilitating critical reading and understanding of the poet's stylistic and thematic resources, whose wit and semantic density elevated him to the pinnacle of the Spanish Golden Age.
