Jiang Cheng is a brilliant student with a proud and volatile temperament. Uprooted from his comfortable life, he is forced to leave the family that raised him and go live with his biological father—a man who is a heavy drinker and a compulsive gambler. Jiang Cheng finds himself thrust into an industrial city in northern China, a place defined by decay, bitter cold, and social marginalization—a hostile, impoverished, and oppressive environment that feels entirely alien to him. There, he meets Gu Fei, a young man who projects a carefree, rebellious exterior but carries a complex past and the self-imposed responsibility of caring for his younger sister, Gu Miao, an avid skateboarder. Despite their differences, the two begin to see reflections of themselves in one another as they navigate life together, working through misunderstandings and personal crises. *Sa Ye* is a story about emotional survival, the creation of a home beyond blood ties, and the possibility of finding light on the fringes of society—a raw, unflinching narrative in which love becomes an act of resistance.
