A woman of daring and wandering spirit, Amalia Spada lives on the fringes of the turmoil that shook southern Italy during the years of Unification. Her house, with tunnels that plunge into the arid lands of Lucania, shelters fugitives, strangers, and girls without lineage: "nobody's daughters." Among them are Rosa Spina, with her fierce sense of justice; Elisabetta, with her sharp gaze and unsteady gait; Mena, forged in scarcity and resilience; and Amanda, endowed with an innate rebelliousness. As her research progresses, Ada's life takes an unexpected turn toward a form of dissent. In 2051, the region has moved beyond the oil boom and become a base for the Mediterranean Space Agency. In a lunar colony that replicates the Lucanian landscape, A, an archivist of objects and rituals destined for oblivion, works classifying the remnants of a bygone world. Ill, nostalgic, searching for an end that lunar society denies her, A embarks on the return to Earth, where perhaps it is still possible to say goodbye.
