Until it became fashionable in the 1970s, exorcism was a dark rite. Now, everyone believes they are possessed. Believers want their suffering interwoven with a grand story of good versus evil; they want their pain to be someone else's fault. Most exorcisms have become theatrical therapy sessions. However, when possession is genuine, it is Father Stygian the Vatican calls. While Stygian battles demons, Father Manuel Barrera, a young Mexican priest, is on his way to Puerto Cristina to atone for his sins. There, in the southernmost city in the world, he will meet Stygian, who will initiate him into the ancient art of exorcism. But his dubious methods, a woman in a coma who doesn't age, and a plague of malevolent forces will unleash chaos.
