This book chronicles the relationship between the media and politics in Spain over the course of more than a century: from the early 20th century—when the print press was the sole medium—through the advent of radio in the 1920s, television in the 1950s, and the rise of the internet and the digital world starting in the 1990s, leading up to the present day, characterized by the flood of social media and the dominance of major tech platforms. Special attention is paid to the interplay between media business structures and evolving political landscapes; the relationships between media owners, publishers, and politicians; state regulatory intervention; and how these dynamics have either fostered or hindered journalism that holds political power accountable. Relations between the media and politics have never been easy; vested interests, lies, and manipulation have always been present. Yet, never before have we seen such immediate access to information alongside such deep mistrust—fueled by a deluge of "alternative realities" within a fragmented and chaotic media landscape. *Nostalgia del papel* (Nostalgia for Print) serves as a reminder of the hard-won nature of freedom of expression and a defense of professional, independent, and responsible journalism—which is more essential than ever today to ensure a pluralistic, democratic debate.
