Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first men to walk on the surface of Mars. Now he's certain he'll be the first man to die there. The crew of the spacecraft he was traveling on is forced to evacuate the planet due to a dust storm, leaving Mark behind after presuming him dead. But he's alive, and trapped millions of miles from any other human being, with no way to signal Earth. Even if he did manage to establish contact, he would die long before rescue could arrive. However, Mark isn't giving up; armed with his ingenuity, his skills, and his knowledge of botany, he will face seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Fortunately, his sense of humor will prove to be his greatest source of strength.
