Fantasmas

While Henry James was a refined prose writer of social dramas, his contribution to the realm of intrigue and suspense is no less remarkable. Deeply interested in the supernatural, he left no type of extrasensory experience unexplored, nor did he refrain from analyzing in detail the demons that, in whatever form, trouble humankind. This volume collects the bulk of his fantastic and ghostly short stories. The stories are preceded by a masterful study by Leon Edel—unanimously considered the foremost James scholar of the 20th century—who also wrote a meticulous introductory note for each one. As a conclusion, we reproduce James's own essay, "Is There Life After Death?", which reflects the author's concerns about the afterlife.
