Sacamantecas

Álava, late 19th century. As the Third Carlist War draws to a close and the region attempts to regain a fragile sense of normalcy, a series of women are found brutally strangled, sowing fear and distrust throughout the area. Rumors spread, and terror grips the towns and villages, where no one seems safe. Ángela Berrosteguieta, sister of one of the victims, arrives determined to seek justice and point the finger at a suspect: Juan Díaz de Garayo. Convinced of his guilt despite the silence, indifference, and mistrust that surround her, Ángela begins her own investigation, confronting a society scarred by violence, machismo, and the still-open wounds of war. As she delves deeper into the case, she will be forced to challenge prejudices, contend with reluctant authorities, and delve into the darkest corners of a community that prefers to look the other way. Her obsession with the truth will lead her to the origin of a horror that will go down in history: that of the so-called Sacamantecas, considered the first documented serial killer in Spain.
