Tío grande

Every year, Jacobo Bergareche organizes a mus tournament in memory of his brother Roque. One night, while negotiating closing time with Amadou, the young man in charge of the venue, he tells him the story of his brother's murder in Africa, hoping to move him and extend the tournament a little longer. Amadou responds by telling his own story: that of a twelve-year-old boy who ran away from home in Guinea-Conakry to reach Europe, crossing a continent and losing several friends along the way, in the desert and at sea. This encounter prompts Bergareche to travel with Amadou to the village he left and to learn about the circumstances of so many invisible migrants. From this journey emerges *Tío grande*, a work in which his brother's story intertwines with Amadou's and with other memories of the author in an unexpected reflection of absence, danger, and hope. A book that tells us how unexpected bonds sometimes arise from pain and loss, helping us to get through grief, and the power that stories have to comfort us.
