The narrator of this novel arrives in Paris intending to write about Gertrude Stein and discover why, a century later, her figure remains so unsettling and fascinating. But the city's relentless bustle sweeps her along, disrupting all her plans. There she meets Eva, an artist with a piercing gaze, trapped in a long-distance marriage, and Fanny, a brilliant financial analyst with a vibrant love life. Between dinners, walks, readings, and conversations that stretch into the early hours, the three women talk about love, friendship, parents, desire, uncertainty, and how to start over when one life is no longer enough. Little by little, Stein ceases to be the object of research and becomes an intimate and unsettling presence, a woman who found in language a way to break free from her time and imagine other ways of living.
