Un autorretrato sin máscaras y la «cantera» de la que se alimentarÃan «vorazmente» los libros de Pitol.
In March 1968, on the eve of traveling to Belgrade as his country's cultural attaché, Sergio Pitol began a diary. The habit of keeping it, which soon became an addiction, is the thread that runs through the more than two decades he spent living in different European cities, building a career as a diplomat while simultaneously forging his path as a writer. Over time, the diary would become the "quarry" from which his books would "voraciously" draw their inspiration.
Written over many years with no intention of publishing it, the diary served as Pitol's confidant for intimate matters he preferred to keep private during his lifetime, but would share posthumously. This aspect is undoubtedly one of the most revealing of a shy and reserved personality who, beneath his affable exterior, concealed a demanding yearning for integrity and happiness. A happiness he found in friendship, his passion for travel, and his lifelong love of music, film, theater, and, above all, literature.
