Every mother lives in two families at the same time: the one in which she was born and the one she has created. At ten years old, Margaret hides under a bramble in the garden of her house while her brother looks for her playing tag. His childhood is spent among sun-drenched pools and pancakes on Saturday mornings. But family life requires a delicate balance: his mother can be as demanding as she is loving, and his father and brother embody familiar if uncomfortable forms of masculinity. Until, at the end of one summer, everything changes, and the simple pleasures of childhood fade away. Twenty-five years later, Margaret hides again, this time under her parents' bed, waiting for her daughters to find her. Recently divorced, she tries to rebuild herself while rediscovering desire with a new lover. But a part of her is still in that summer, suspended outside of time. Divided between being the mother of her daughters and, at the same time, her mother's daughter, she must face the echoes and reflections between the past and the present.
