La piedra angular del pensamiento de J. A. Marina, con un nuevo prólogo del autor en tiempos de inteligencia artificial.
This book presents an innovative theory of intelligence, integrating findings from the cognitive sciences: neurology, artificial intelligence, psycholinguistics, cognitive psychology, and philosophy. The topic is of urgent interest to everyone because, as the author states, "our understanding of human intelligence will determine our understanding of ourselves, and this understanding determines who we truly are." To illustrate the theory, the author uses two examples: "sporting creation" and "artistic creation." Michael Jordan in basketball, Jack Nicklaus in golf, Marcel Proust, and Rainer Maria Rilke in literature demonstrate the dazzling flexibility of human intelligence. The inventive process is freed from mythological obscurity and described with unusual precision and remarkable narrative technique. The creative process of several writers and painters—Thomas Mann, Paul Valéry, Julien Green, Louis Aragon, Rilke, Gabriel García Márquez, Monet, and Picasso—is studied in great detail. As one might expect, the author does not believe in inspiration. The conclusion of his analysis is also striking: intelligence is characterized, above all, by its capacity to invent ends. To create is to invent effective surprises. Effective for what purpose? The nature of that "purpose" will determine the nature of intelligence. The Theory of Creative Intelligence necessarily extends into an Ethics, considered as the science of human ends.
