Una mirada imprescindible para recuperar el lugar de Isabel Matoses en la historia de la fotografía en España, una fotógrafa adelantada a su tiempo que convirtió la imagen en revelación.
Isabel Matoses: The Recovered Image rescues the figure of a pioneering photographer who, in Spain during the 1970s and 80s, understood the image as more than just a record of reality: a way to explore the invisible. Trained in Madrid and Rome, Matoses transformed the photographic darkroom into a space of creative freedom, where black and white, chiaroscuro, solarization, bas-relief, textures, and montages allowed her to construct her own language, situated between photography, drawing, printmaking, and painting. Through portraits, landscapes, architectural scenes, depictions of the Transition, and reinterpretations of works of art, this book recovers an intense, experimental, and profoundly personal body of work, marked by a search for emotion and a vision capable of transforming each image into a visual experience. The volume also reclaims her role as a teacher at the Alamillo studio-school, a pioneering space for creation and learning in Madrid, and restores Isabel Matoses to her rightful place in the history of Spanish artistic photography.
