An orange in a still life can tell of a geopolitical conflict and the image of a wine glass has the ability to become the gateway to a world of ancient symbolic meanings. The representation of a soup can explain a world, a cosmogony, a way of life. Gastronomy has permeated the entire history of art. What we eat and how we do it speaks about us, just like the dishes, ingredients and utensils we find in the paintings or the fact that the cook is wearing a white jacket, a striped apron or a black t-shirt. Our history and our culture are there, as they have been in other times and other places in which food, drink and the way of relating around the table were always present, loaded with the ability to tell stories.
