El idiota

After masterfully portraying the figure of the guilty in Crime and Punishment, Dostoevsky delves into the tortured soul of an innocent man in The Idiot. After spending several years in a Swiss sanatorium, the young and pious Prince Myshkin returns to his native Russia to receive an inheritance and "mingle with the people." However, in St. Petersburg, he finds only a society obsessed with money, power, and manipulation that will test his morals and his pure feelings. Before reaching his destination, he meets the unsettling Rogozhin, the son of a wealthy merchant, whose fixation on the beautiful Nastasya Filippovna will ultimately drag the three protagonists to a fatal end.
