Those who perform in the Theater are as revered as they are feared: their breathtaking spectacles can alter minds, hearts, and even reality itself. They are cruel, almost divine, lethal. At eighteen, Riven Hesper knows these dangers better than anyone, after a run-in with a Performer resulted in a curse that is slowly killing her. After many years of absence, the Theater once again announces its greatest spectacle: the chance for a mortal to steal an Performer's immortality. And Riven sees it as her last chance to stay alive. Desperate for answers, she infiltrates the competition. There she meets Jude, a dazzling and ruthless Performer with whom she makes a risky pact to survive. But as time runs out and the secrets of the Theater are revealed in terrifying ways, Riven considers a dark possibility: perhaps she isn't the hero of the story after all. In fact, she might be the villain. Because the Theater doesn't just tell stories. It can change them. And Riven's story could end in blood.
