Un libro fundamental que contribuyó a renovar la comprensión histórica del franquismo.
This book, first published in 1986, was an initial attempt to study the Franco regime using the methods and rigor of historical research, independent of the favorable or hostile public discourse that had prevailed until then. Beginning with an introduction by Josep Fontana, a series of articles analyze the fundamental aspects of the history of the Franco regime: its political nature (Sheelagh M. Ellwood and Ricardo L. Chueca address the Falange; Miguel A. Aparicio, the trade unions; José R. Montero, the Catholics; and Jordi Solé Tura, Hartmut Heine, and Juan Pablo Fusi, the opposition); its economy (in studies by J.L. García Delgado, Carlos Barciela, and Fabián Estapé and Mercè Amado); and its ideology (Alicia Alted, Rafael Valls, and J.A. Ferrer Benimeli). Now, forty years after its first publication and fifty years after the dictator's death, this book retains all its appeal and interest as an instrument for analyzing a transcendental era in the history of Spain.
