La sombra

The Shadow narrates the descent into madness of Dr. Anselmo (a stand-in for Faust), consumed by the morbid jealousy provoked by a portrait of the Trojan prince Paris. Convinced that his wife, Helena, is cheating on him, he creates a rival from his imagination in a delirious, chiaroscuro-laden delusion. Thus, the shadow of Paris, emerging from the canvas, materializes into a nineteenth-century character, alive in everyone's eyes, who embodies Anselmo's torment and unleashes his violence, fluctuating between reality and fantasy, sanity and hallucination, affection and obsession.
