El futuro de la democracia

Democracy, so challenged today, is one of those things whose consolidation and improvement we don't quite know what it requires of us: indignation toward its enemies or serenity confident in its resilience? Are its ills due to the incompetence of leaders or the stupidity of the masses? To what extent can we trust those who claim to defend it? The history of democracy has always been accompanied by these kinds of dilemmas, which seems to tell us a great deal about its nature, about that unstable equilibrium in which the principles that characterize it are articulated and renegotiated. In this book, I don't speak of its turbulent history but of its uncertain future. If democracy is a form of government open to questioning and renegotiating what was taken for granted, then reflection on it is no less obligated to review its concepts, practices, and predictions.
