Seeking a fresh start, teenager Cheyenne Rite and her mother, Rebecca, move to St. Augustine, Florida, where their paths cross with that of Jean McKnight, a disgraced big-city journalist determined to atone for her past mistakes and rebuild her career, starting with an inconsequential filler article about the upcoming 450th anniversary celebration of the city's founding. When the community's quaint festivities descend into bloodshed, and Cheyenne is the only witness, Jean launches an investigation, and the women become entangled in a supernatural conspiracy connected to St. Augustine's colonial past.
