Julieta is a fourteen-year-old girl searching for meaning in her life in 1960s Mexico, amidst rock music and feminist movements, the sexual revolution, and student rebellion against the PRI dictatorship. Clara, her mother, is a charismatic psychologist who fights for women's rights, the daughter of Spanish exiles who survived the anti-republican persecution of the Franco dictatorship. Her father, Fernando, is a good man, heir to a line of powerful military officers, who lives in constant conflict between his love for his rebellious wife and daughter and his support for the ideals of his conservative family. Everything changes when Julieta accompanies her mother to the marches of October 2, 1968, and the one that culminates on June 10, 1971, known as the Halconazo. The protagonist becomes a witness to the clandestine meetings of courageous social activists in Latin America who confront not only an oppressive, racist, and anti-democratic system, but also the patriarchal structures of the student and leftist movements to which they belong. Throughout these pages, we accompany Julieta on an intimate journey through a decade of revelations in which she discovers the power of love, sex, identity, death, and the political force of rebellion and friendship.
