Giovanna, Caterina and Vittorio meet and grow up together at the Institute for the Children of War in Portogruaro. They are considered orphaned children and have been taken in by a group of religious people who are trying to give them a family. As they grow up, their paths separate. Giovanna is adopted by a rich couple from Padua who wants to make her a good housewife and changes her name; Vittorio, the adventurer, does not hesitate to escape, but he wants with all his might to be captured by someone who loves him for who he is; Caterina doesn't know it, but she has the strength of a union that protects and guides her, a bond, a new possibility.
