Yrsa is feeling down. She's fed up with her PhD program, fed up with her research on Afropessimism, fed up with the pretentious undergraduates she has to deal with. But most of all, she's fed up with the men in her life, especially the bad ones. When her best friend, Nina, confesses that she's having an affair with her professor and that he's stolen her research, Yrsa is furious. On campus, Yrsa runs into the professor and witnesses his death: an unfortunate incident involving his San Pellegrino and a bee allergy. What she sees that afternoon awakens something in her: a taste for murder. Empowered, Yrsa decides to pursue this euphoria, and soon no sexist, rude man within walking distance is safe. With each murder, Yrsa feels a greater sense of meaning and purpose; finally, her doctoral research seems worthwhile. But how long can killing in the name of feminist and racial solidarity justify her actions? Will her rampage soothe her feelings of rage and vengeance? And how long will it be before her actions —and the buried family secrets— return to haunt her?
