At the end of the 3rd century BC, Rome was on the brink of total destruction, about to be annihilated by the Carthaginian armies under the command of one of the greatest military strategists of all time: Hannibal. His alliance with Philip V of Macedon, who sought the annihilation of Rome as a state and the division of the known world between the powers of Carthage and Macedon, constituted an unstoppable force that, had it achieved its objectives, would have forever determined the course of the West.
