Una historia de Taipéi

After her first year of college, Lily Chen sets off to spend the summer in Taipei on an intensive language program, like many other American students of Chinese descent, hoping to connect with a culture she has inherited but never fully understood. However, the promising start to her adventure soon goes awry: classes are grueling, her roommate is driving her crazy, and a reckless trip to a hot spring resort with a guy she barely knows has made her the talk of her classmates. She feels adrift, like a foreigner in a country where she thought she'd feel right at home. Then comes unexpected news: Lily's grandfather has died. This loss forces her to confront long-held, unanswerable questions about her family history. From there begins a journey of self-discovery in which memories, stories, and silences intertwine, with attempts at connection that are sometimes funny and other times devastating.
