In the darkest years of the postwar period, when the lines between victim and executioner blurred, two brothers discovered that the struggle no longer distinguished sides, but destinies. The Cheka on Genoa Street portrays a torn country where ordinary men, thrown into opposing trenches, had to choose between killing or being killed, with no room for heroes or villains. After the Civil War ended, Bonifacio Cabrejas travels to an exhausted Madrid to rescue his brother Avelino, accused of having run one of the feared Chekas. Both know that victorious justice doesn't listen to nuance and that defeat turns any act into suspicion. But Bonifacio refuses to accept that the Cabrejas name will be forever stained by a war neither of them wanted to fight. In Avelino's confessions —militiaman, traveler, lover, betrayed, and traitor out of necessity— an uncomfortable truth emerges: the war gave him what peace denied him. In his story, there are no redeeming ideologies, only the brutal logic of a front where everyone obeyed orders and everyone paid a price. His life, like so many others, rose and broke amidst the roar of the cannons.
