For his birthday, Luca receives a bright red fire truck, full of lights. At first, he's fascinated… but he soon discovers that the toy does everything for him, and that his imagination stagnates. Without realizing it, he starts playing more with the box it came in than with the truck itself. When Luca arrives at preschool, he finds a different environment: baskets full of simple objects, without instructions or a single way to use them. Sticks, fabrics, shells, ropes, and boxes become open doors to play, creativity, and thought. Accompanied by an adult's gaze that observes without directing, Luca and his classmates transform their interests into unique play activities, where each child learns in their own way: with music, movement, words, cooperation, or even through silence. Through these loose pieces, the children discover that there isn't just one way to play or learn, and that the value of play lies not in the object, but in what each child is able to imagine, build, and share. Back at his grandparents' house, Luca starts playing again, but this time he's not looking for toys: he's searching for everyday treasures, creating his own worlds and showing, without explanation, that something has changed... that he's growing up.
