Cantar de Mio Cid

The Poem of the Cid is the great epic poem of medieval Spanish literature. It narrates the journey of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, El Cid Campeador, from his exile to the restoration of his honor. Like all epic poems, it presents an exemplary hero through a poetic narrative conceived for oral transmission. The story recounts the restitution of a knight who, after losing royal favor due to court intrigues and the false accusation of tax evasion, is stripped of his possessions and separated from his family.
