Una doble vindicación : Textos seleccionados

In 1790, Mary Wollstonecraft read Edmund Burke's Reflections on the French Revolution and reacted by writing. In just a few weeks, she published A Vindication of the Rights of Man, a fierce text against the defense of privilege, tradition, and the Ancien Régime. Two years later, that same anger guided her reflection on the condition of women, and thus A Vindication of the Rights of Woman was born, the book that founded contemporary political feminism. This anthology, A Double Vindication, brings together a selection from both texts. From the first, it includes the most combative passages, those in which Wollstonecraft dismantles the idea that liberty can be based on property, hierarchy, or inheritance. From the second, we recover the heart of her thought: the dedication to Talleyrand, a direct appeal to the new revolutionary France, and four key chapters in which she argues that the supposed inferiority of women is not natural, but a construct sustained by education and dependency. Together, these texts reveal a far more radical and multifaceted Wollstonecraft, a political thinker who, as early as the late 18th century, understood that true freedom cannot exist while people are excluded from it. This edition includes a prologue by Nerea Pérez de las Heras, one of the most incisive voices in cultural and feminist journalism in Spain, who draws a direct line between Wollstonecraft's enlightened rage and many of the debates that continue to resonate today.
