Shogo Hatano, a reserved and observant 21-year-old, has reached the final phase of interviews for several positions at Spiralinks, Japan's most promising technology company. Of the 5,000 initial applicants, only six finalists remain. The final test requires them to work together for two and a half hours to prove that they can be the best team. However, one last surprise awaits the group the night before the final interview: Spiralinks will only hire one of the candidates, and it will be up to them to decide before time runs out. On the day in question they find a package with six envelopes addressed to each one, revealing compromising information. Someone has hatched a plan to sabotage the others and take the job. Trust is broken as secrets come to light and they must vote every 30 minutes for the ideal candidate. Hatano must find out who is the author of the sabotage and convince others that he deserves the job of his dreams. Any mistake can be a misstep and ruin everything. Eight years later, a narrator interviews the participants about what happened, revealing truths and lies. Did the candidate who got the job really deserve it? Was it worth the price you had to pay? In the cutthroat Japanese corporate world, where winning is everything, the darkest side of human nature emerges.
