Structured around the theme of the "closed world," in which the protagonists know nothing of their own history or that of humankind, this novel places us in a possible future where the Earth and the Moon have stopped rotating and always present the same surface to the Sun. And the Sun is about to become a nova. Therefore, half the planet is shrouded in eternal night, while the other, perpetually illuminated, is covered in what appears to be an eternal blanket of vegetation. In this environment, two young survivors of the human species will embark on an initiatory journey that will lead them to the dark side of the planet, where, paradoxically, they will experience the illumination of the unknowns concerning their future and their past. With a theme that remains entirely relevant today —survival in a post-catastrophe world— Hothouse is one of the great classics of 20th-century science fiction and fantasy literature, and as such, it deservedly won the Hugo Award in 1962. A parallel life and world... but very current and probably more plausible than we'd like to think after experiencing a pandemic.
