In 2011, shortly before her death, the writer Christa Wolf decided to honor her husband with a very special gift for their sixtieth wedding anniversary. After the end of World War II, an eight-year-old orphan who has escaped from East Prussia enters a remote tuberculosis sanatorium housed in an old castle.
