She is seven years old and already knows hunger. In the polar night, her mother softens the rope that will have to be placed around her neck. One less mouth to feed could save the rest of the family. But at the last moment, her brother intervenes. Arnarulunguaq will live. Years later, white settlers have established themselves in her Greenlandic village. The trading post they have opened changes the daily lives of the Inuit. But the bright-eyed young girl has only one wish: to participate in their expeditions. In 1921, Arnarulunguaq takes the plunge and sets off on a dog sled across the Far North with the charismatic Knud Rasmussen, to meet the overseas peoples.
