“On January 21, 1931, the day before delivering her famous lecture ‘Professions for Women,’ Virginia Woolf recounts that, prompted by the talk, she had just had the idea —‘Oh my God, how exciting!— of a new book, a sequel to A Room of One’s Own, about the sexual lives of women [...], which might be titled Professions for Women.’ This new book, which, after twelve different titles over the seven years it took to write, would eventually be titled Three Guineas, is one of the most lucid and well-documented essays on the situation of women in English society during the first half of the 20th century, and on their relationship with violence and war in the patriarchal society that still exists today.”
