Hiruko has watched her homeland, an archipelago nestled between southern China and Polynesia, vanish from the map, swallowed by the ravages of climate change. A refugee in Denmark, she has invented her own language, Panska, a flexible tongue that allows her to communicate in any Scandinavian country and which she teaches to those who, like her, no longer belong anywhere. But in a world where borders are blurring and maps are being forcibly rewritten, what does it truly mean to belong? Driven by nostalgia and a profound sense of loss following the disappearance of her country, and accompanied by Knut, a young Danish linguist fascinated by the relationship between identity and language, Hiruko embarks on a journey across Europe in search of former compatriots who speak her native tongue. Along the way, she encounters the stories of a cast of characters who, each in their own way, grapple with their prejudices, societal expectations, and the ever-evolving realities of their own lives.
