After decades of war against their alien oppressors, the humans of the Defiant Defense Force are finally free. However, for Arturo Mendez, leader of Sky Squadron, freedom is not what he expected. His first post-war assignment seems straightforward: the DDF has found evidence of other human settlements that were isolated during the long conflict with the aliens. Arturo and his squadron of pilots must escort a diplomatic team attempting to make contact. It's an easy mission: arrive, protect the diplomats, leave. But nothing about the mission is easy. Misfortune is a desolate place, surrounded by mysterious debris and covered in gigantic, invasive forests that have taken over almost the entire planet. Upon arrival, Arturo's team comes under attack, and it soon becomes clear that this human settlement is not what it seemed. Trapped in an unfamiliar world and with no one to trust, Arturo and his team must find allies and uncover long-buried secrets if they want to escape and return home.
