The narrator of this story is someone who knows how to listen, because she understands that everyone needs to be heard, and this virtue will be fundamental in the situation she is about to face. At the heart of this novel are two friends and an illness. The narrator visits a friend in the hospital who is suffering from terminal cancer and decides to move in with her to be with her in her final days. The two talk, watch movies, read, reminisce about their childhood, laugh, and discuss their complicated and not always satisfying personal relationships.
