This book reconstructs the role of the Spanish diplomatic corps, showing how the rupture of 1936 also extended to embassies and consulates worldwide, where a decisive battle for the international legitimacy of the Republic was waged. Based on extensive documentary research, the work traces the trajectories of diplomats who remained loyal to the constitutional government, analyzes the conspiracies and defections within the foreign service itself, and examines the international dimension of the conflict, illuminating a hitherto little-explored aspect of Spanish political history.
