The emergence of the concept of "post-truth" in social discourse has sparked numerous comments, especially regarding fake news, but few in-depth reflections. However, this concept, in addition to influencing the link between politics and truth, blurs the essential distinction between the real and the fictitious, impoverishing social relations and undermining our capacity for coexistence. Through an analysis of the main assumptions surrounding the nature of truth, the author examines the relationship between facts and politics in democratic systems, based on the exercise of public opinion, as opposed to totalitarian systems, in which ideology is established as a truer reality than experience. This is a fundamental essay on the current regime of truth in politics and the risk that opinions will become detached from facts, thus undermining the foundation of the common world from which to build shared spaces.
