In February 2021, Chloe Dalton was spending lockdown in the English countryside when she stumbled upon a newborn hare —a leveret— in the middle of a path. Fearing it wouldn't survive, she decided to take it home, intending to release it as soon as it was old enough. What she didn't realize was how difficult it is to raise a wild hare, as many die in captivity from stress or starvation. However, after several attempts and setbacks, she managed to raise it successfully. In this book, Dalton recounts the amazing relationship she develops with the animal over several years and how that experience profoundly transforms her view of the world around her. At the same time, she invites readers to discover the habits of hares and how they have been portrayed throughout history in art, literature, and natural history.
