Between Marquesses and Shadows is a gripping and harrowing novel, featuring a protagonist capable of rising from the worst humiliation a woman can suffer. Santomera was born in 1923. The newborn was named after the small town in Murcia where her parents came from. A few months before the coup of July 18, 1936, and thanks to the intervention of Salvador, a priest in love with her mother, Santomera left home and went to work as a maid in the house of a marquess. The ostentation and luxury she discovered in the mansion dazzled her, but the young woman became the target of an unscrupulous man. The only one willing to help her was Tomás, a doctor who, in addition to his work at the hospital, cared for the most needy.
