The Vatican, August 18, 1503. Pope Alexander VI, the Borgia pope, dies under mysterious circumstances after several days of agony. The investigator Fernando de Rojas is tasked with examining the case at the behest of his uncle, the ambassador of the Catholic Monarchs to the Eternal City. He must also keep a watchful eye on the power struggles and family infighting, as well as everything that transpires during the conclave to elect the new pope, for many interests are at stake for Spain and France, which at that time are vying for control of the Kingdom of Naples. Solving the case will be anything but easy, as Rodrigo Borgia had many enemies and left numerous victims in his wake; there will also be obstacles, setbacks, manipulations, and new crimes. Fortunately, Rojas will have the assistance of the cleric and physician Francisco Delicado, the author of *La Lozana andaluza*. of Lozana herself, who with her grace, beauty, cunning and boldness has become a free woman, full of resources and very popular; and of the writer and musician Juan del Enzina.
