The late 16th century in Japan is considered the era of civil wars, as feudal lords fought amongst themselves for land and power. During the Battle of Adachigahara, the samurai Miyamoto Usagi lost his lord, Lord Mifune, to the armies of Lord Hikiji. Clanless, Usagi now undertakes the warrior's pilgrimage, seeking harmony.
