Miembro fantasma

The phantom limb is the amputation that remains as pain and as a presence. Is it an imaginary pain? No, it is real. The characters in these stories carry what has been lost. Pains that remain festering, throbbing dully in the most intimate realm; that remain lodged in the memories of families, lovers, and friends; that are inscribed in the history of a wounded nation. In that universe, addictions, escapes, or detachments are the anesthesia for what cannot be borne or erased: because some ghosts are unseen, they wander within us.
