La Zorera, 1897. An isolated village in the Asturian mountains witnesses the murder of Manuela Martínez de Llano and her newborn baby at the hands of her husband, Rafael González Gancedo. There, where work is plentiful, hunger reigns, and time stands still, the news spreads like wildfire. Oviedo, 1898. A city of cobbled streets and dimly lit taverns welcomes the residents of La Zorera during the days of Gancedo's trial. The city of Clarín condemns the prisoner, who will become the last man publicly executed by garrote in Asturias and one of the last in Spain during peacetime.
