Madrid, 17th century. Enrique is twenty years old and missing an arm. Rejected as a child for being the son of a prostitute, he now roams the city, surviving by petty theft. His luck changes when a jester hires him to entertain at a party the Count-Duke of Olivares is holding at the Alcázar. Enrique wins the favor of the royal favorite and comes into contact with Philip IV, the most powerful man in the world. When the king decides to include him in his retinue of minstrels, dwarfs, and jugglers, the young man finds himself embroiled in a series of adventures and palace intrigues that will test his wit, his survival instincts, and his ambition.
